Lake Shrine

I highly believe that you have city people, and you have non city people. I am one of those city people. I love the city! I think this is why I love Los Angeles so much. No matter where you live thought is nice to get away and escape. The great thing about LA is that there are so many places that make you feel like you are so far away, without really being far way at all. One of my favorite places to when I feel like I need to escape the city is Lake Shrine. Lake Shrines is in Pacific Palisades and when you are there, you feel like you are so much farther away. It is extremely peaceful and beautiful.

Friday Favorites: 6 May 2016

This week by fast. The Pentatonix concert on Sunday good. Although, unfortunately my best friend came down with food poisoning so she couldn’t attend. I did get her something though to hopefully make it a little better. If they are performing near you, I highly recommend attending.  I also discovered that Honest Beauty will be releasing their first makeup brush in the coming few weeks. Which I have asked about every time I go to the store. I am also working on a fashion show that will benefit a pet rescue foundation ( I will post more about this when I can).

Mother’s Day 2016

mothersdaygifts

Mother’s Day is just 8 days away. I thought I would share some of my favorite places to shop for gifts that are different but loved. Many of the places below are places where I have found some gift that have quickly turned into someone’s favorite.

Keep scrolling to see my top places for great gift shopping.

Ten-Thousand_villages_logoTen Thousand Villages is a store that started in 1946. They travel the world and make sure that Artisans get paid a fair price for the work. They want to make an effort to educate about various artists around the world. Ten Thousand Villages started the Global Fair Trade Movement. You can find some great handmade pieces here and each piece comes with a story. I have several pieces of jewelry from here and always get compliments when I wear them. I have also found some great gifts that people always love.

QVC_logo

I am shop from QVC quite often.  I have never been disappointed with what I have bought. They have great packages that end up being cheaper than many other places. I just bought this camera  when they had sale and it was a lot cheaper than if I would have bought it at other places. The camera itself would have cost more than the bundle QVC is offering. Then everything else on top of this. QVC is great at things like that. A lot of people just don’t realize how broad of an offering QVC really is. Cosmetics (brands found in department store and cosmetic boutiques), electronics, and every day items as well. Some of their cosmetics actually come with the brush included! Which ends up being a great savings! Head on over and see what you can find.

Uncommon Goods is another great place for finding Unique Goods.  They got started when the found was at a craft show at the Smithsonian craft fair. They have a variety of products available. Personal, household, food, and more are here. They always have products that are interesting and amusing along with being useful.

Unique Market is another great place. They are a pop up market located in different cities throughout the year. If you live in Los Angeles they are holding a market this weekend (California Market Center), just in time for Mother’s Day. They bring together lots of great local Artisans in one place. Last one they had in LA I walked away with a photograph, food, and stationary. There is an excellent mix of products. You do have to buy a ticket to get in, but it is worth it.

The Bouqs are a great flower company. They price you see on the flowers is the price you pay for flowers, shipping, delivery, etc. There are no hidden prices when you check out. They are a sustainable company with the flowers coming straight from the farm. Since they come straight from the farm it does take a bit of planning so you will need to order them in advance. This also allows the flowers to stay fresh with the recipient longer. I was just on their website and it looks like a few options that will arrive for Mother’s Day.

Etsy  is another place that I love. You can find so many things on this site and it is so easy to get lost. I can’t tell you how many times my best friend and I have sent things back and forth that we have found. Sometimes when we do this a good amount of times goes by, but we always come across interesting and fun items. You start looking at one thing, and next thing you know some time has gone by and you don’t remember what you started looking for. It is just as easy to lose track of time on Etsy as it is on Pinterest. All the sellers I have alway encountered have always been more than willing to answer any questions I have about the product(s).  I am even planning on doing a post about some of my favorite Etsy sellers in the coming weeks.

Ynfu2W4PHonest Beauty is quickly becoming my new favorite beauty brand. I have super sensitive skin and  dry skin. The Honest Beauty products have not been irritating my skin. The products have actually been helping my skin!   They have bundles where you can pick any 3 products you want for $50, which makes their products more affordable. What is great about their bundles it that you can order or not order as many times as you want. So if you are low and need to order multiple bundles this month, order as many as you want. If you don’t need anything, you just go online and push your bundle date back. You can also find their products in Ulta. (Ulta doesn’t offer the bundles, but they offer other sales) If you live in Los Angeles they have a retail store at The Grove (in the lobby concierge) and they do the bundles in store too!

Tell me! What are you favorite places to shop for Mother’s Day gifts? I can tell you what I got my Mom came from store(s) in this list! I know she will love them!

A video posted to Instagram by National Geographic of Baby Pandas that will immediately cheer you up. (Make sure your sound is on!)

Video by @amivitale. Ever wondered what a baby giant panda sounds like? Listen to these adorable, squeaky bundles from Bifengxia Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center in Sichuan Province, China. Did you know that adult pandas don’t roar like other bears, but bleat like goats or honk, growl and bark to communicate? My @natgeo story on giant pandas and China sending captive born pandas back to the wild will be out in the August magazine issue. Death Valley Super Bloom

IMG_0449

Thanks to El Niño, California has had an unusual amount of rain. Due to this Death Valley experienced a Super Bloom. This is a rare event that happens when in California during El Niño years that causes wildflower to burst up. This is happening in several places throughout California and Death Valley is just one of them. I have wanted to go for a while now, but when I read that super bloom was coming to an end I knew I had to go right away. So I headed out of Los Angeles for a road trip. I caught the end of this and I am glad that I went.  There are a few other places that are experiencing Super Bloom that I am hoping I have the time to go see before they end.

Being in Death Valley ended up being relaxing. It also reminded me that now matter what is going on; beauty and a silver lining are found in all things. To the plants that did not have flowers they looked like just weeds. The plants that did were bright and colorful, beautiful and fun to look at. It definitely reminded me make sure I see the beauty and the silver lining in no matter what obstacle comes my way.

Welcome To Food

Food

Welcome to Food of BFF & More! A few years ago when I started working on the concept of this website I knew I had to include food! I love recipes that seem a lot more complicated than what they are! Those recipes that you get compliments on and they are near as hard or complicated as people assume! I highly believe those recipes are the best! Food for holidays, dinner parties, or just the regular weeknight meals are some of the things we will explore!

A friend of mine is a nutritionist and she has agreed to guest post on occasion on ways to include healthy but not boring foods and recipes into your diet! She also has some great tips for eating healthy (not boring though) on a busy schedule! She has a family and a career so she understands the need of practicality in food and recipes!

What are some of your favorite go to meals and snacks that you love? Or what is a food or recipe that you have wanted to try?

Let me know in the comments below.
